Linking Instructions for M249/M60 GPMG Place links open-side-up against stop on loading plate. Lay loose rounds in grooves behind links, with bullets started into links. Position "hold-down bar" over links, and push rounds forward all-the-way. "Hold-down bar" keeps rounds from jumping up as they move through the links.
