A Supplement Instruction Booklet For the M7A4 Universal Loading Press
Linking 7.92 x 57 mm Mauser for the M1919A4 Browning can be confusing, given that there at least three different links which can be used with two variations of this gun;.30-06 (Fig. 1), and 7.62 Nato (Fig. 2)
 Fig.1 Fig.2
Available links, which work satisfactorily, are .30-06, 7.62 Nato, and "8mm"; the choice of which depends on what caliber your gun is set up for and what linker plate you have.
If you are currently linking and shooting 7.62 Nato using Israeli links, then go ahead and link your 7.92 x 57 in those links, using the 7.62 BMG linker plate. Just seat the rounds in the links until they stop, without forcing them too hard. The only gun parts that need to be changed are the barrel, booster (see booster note), and the front feedway adapter.
If you are set up for .30-06, then load the 7.92 x 57 ammo into .30-06 links, using the .30-06 linker plate (Fig. 3). This will seat the rounds to the correct length for .30-06, so you won't have to change the rear .30-06 cartridge stop. Then just install a 8x57 feedway adapter and barrel.
The end of the case neck will be flush with the front edge of the front (small) link loop, and the rounds held just as secure as if they were seated all-the-way (which is only .178" deeper).(Fig. 4)
 Fig.3 Fig.4
If you have "8mm" links, use the .300-06 linker plate as for .306 links. However, be careful not to get them mixed up with .30-06 links, as .30-06 ammo cannot be satisfactorily into "8mm" links.
You can also use .30-06 or "8mm" links to run 7.92 x 57 through a gun that is set up for 7.62 Nato. Use the .30-06 linker plate and the 3/16" extension piece to seat the rounds fully into the links (Fig5).

*Booster Note:
If you are using 7.92 x 57 military ammo with the 154 gr. bullet (such as "light ball"), use the booster with .718 dia. orifice Fig. 6). If you are using "heavy ball" or its equivalent (190's-gr. bullet), then you need to use a muzzle booster with an .865-.880 dia. orifice (as for the U.S. M1 bullet) (Fig. 7).
 Fig.6 Fig.7
Do not use the 13.5mm 7.62 Nato Israeli booster with 7.92 x 57. It will batter the gun excessively.
